Event Details

On 8 November, ITE College East was set abuzz with flurry of activities during the U Games 15/16 7-A-Side Soccer & Mixed Netball Tournament. We were blessed with fantastic weather and saw over 500pax afoot the campus on a Sunday morning.

As Mixed Netball continues to grow, the annual U Games saw increased support from unions in the sport with a total of 14 teams (98 players) from 11 unions. Two unions, SUN and AREU took part for the first time, with the latter creating an upset with a 2nd position finish as they displaced previous runner up UTES into 4th placing this year. STU retained their Netball title for the 4th year running and SMMWU sent a strong team that came in 3rd. The Corporate category also saw competitive teams slugging it out for top honours with many participants being starstruck by former national footballer Lionel Lewis & celebrity Paul Foster who were competing for NYP and LiveFit.asia respectively

Famous faces Lionel Lewis and Paul Foster goes head to head in Mixed Netball Corporate category.

In the 7 A-Side Soccer, 30 teams (330pax) from 14 unions competed in the Men’s Open and Masters categories. NTWU continued their stronghold in the Masters category after winning the Champion and 2nd runners-up position. With defending champion SPWU’s absence from this year’s competition, SMMWU took the opportunity to secure top spot in the Open category and boosted their overall standings on the U Games leaderboard.

Serious business during Captain’s Briefing.

Fighting it out for the ball.

While the players competed hard on court and on field, they also had fun at the fun fringe activities – be it trying out Subbuteo – a unique finger soccer game, challenging themselves at the Netball shootout or taking pictures with wacky props at the photobooth. Everyone also walked away with goodies from our partners and sponsors such as Weston Corporation, Block up, My Beauty Diary, Fruit of the Earth, Pokka & Pere Ocean.

Having fun at the Photobooth.

Delighting themselves at Subbuteo.

We’d like to thank U Games Committee member Brother Koh Ching Chuan for presenting the prizes to all winners.  More importantly, thank YOU for your support to make our event a huge success! Hope to see you again next year.
