U Sports Awards Night 2016

U Sports Awards Night 2016 marked the closure of U Games and U Sports 15/16. Staying true to the U Games 15/16 concept of “Unleash Your Sporting DNA”, D’Marquee was transformed into an exciting Olympics closing ceremony set-up, complete with an exciting Games Carnival Village, a Food Village as well as a grand U Sports Arena as the stage to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our sporting members!

The Awards Night saw 600 union leaders, sportsmen, sportswomen, sports convenors and supporters joined in the celebrations. They were treated to stadium-style food stalls and buffet dinner sponsored by NTUC FoodFare and Gayatri Restaurant, instant photo booth as well as U PRIDE game stations.

Awards were given out to our deserving sportspersons and unions according to the six UPRIDE values. SMMWU with their excellent and consistent performances throughout U Games was crowned the top union for the 5th year running and brought home the UPRIDE trophy.

The crowd was also entertained with performances by local band Hubbabubbas, SMU Samba Masala, and nEbO singing talents, Fae, Tiara and Elizabeth!

The grand celebrations were capped off with a ceremonial handover from outgoing U Games Committee chairman Brother Hassan of AREU to new chairman Brother Philip from SISEU, at the same time flagging of the commencement of the 9th U Games FY16/17.
